All your worries and cares fade away when you arrive in one of the Serbian villages that have maintained
its distinctive atmosphere. You
will find yourself surrounded by true and unspoiled nature with scenery, fragrance and
sounds you've probably never experienced. And lush greenery is all around: cool clusters
of trees, placid farmland, meadows, grasslands, orchards. This green and
deeply shaded setting in summer wear a golden yellow costume with the
approach of autumn. In spring time water gushes
out of the sides of mountains and hills, crystal clear and icy cold, and the
uplands are literally carpeted with flowers. As a natural setting for
walking and hiking, this must be the ideal place for a short and peaceful
relaxing holiday.
Villagers remain
isolated despite the coming of modern roads. The population remains agricultural
and the countryside has not lost its traditional character, even if cousins
abroad have sent money back home in order to build some extravagant dwellings, and even if
urban development is to some extent displacing farmers. Your hosts still await
their guests according to traditional ways - with the
honey, coffee and plum brandy. During the stay you'll enjoy homemade food; baking
the bread is still the job of the housewife.

| In a local "kafana"
there is a friendly gathering every day ("Hey Mister, come in!"),
so you can join for a salad, cheese and a drop of wine. Modest fare maybe, but
tasty and offered with love. At the sound of an accordion or a violin, the
ancient "kolo" dance will start. Get into the dance and amuse
yourself. You should experience the nice and simple atmosphere of this joyful
social life, where foreigners are always welcome and encouraged to make
themselves at home. However, don't forget that further hospitality awaits you.
Your hosts in the village might be waiting to serve you a lunch or dinner
they've prepared only for you! |
