Belgrade Hotels

Accommodation in Belgrade

Getting good but not expensive service is a bit problematic, though the situation with Belgrade hotels has recently been significantly improved.

There are big international hotel chains (like Hyatt or Holiday Inn) having their excellent units in Belgrade, but such accommodation is usually quite expensive for the average visitor. These hotels offer luxurious amenities and are located near the bank of the Sava river, in New Belgrade area.

There are also hotels downtown, but some of them still offer just a basic standard of rooms and services. However, several well-known centrally located Belgrade hotels have already been renovated and refitted. Budget accommodation is available, though to a limited level.

Good hotels in cities other than Belgrade are not very numerous and visitors tend to shuttle back and forth to Belgrade. No destination in the country is much more than 4-5 hours away by car from Belgrade so a base-stay in the capital may be the most practical and comfortable option. Apartment-style residences, book-able for a week or longer, can be found in the mountain resort of Kopaonik.

Royal (ex: Toplice) Official category: ***  | Our opinion: **

This 3 star hotel with 120 rooms and 200 beds is in an enviable location: in the heart of the old town area, in the vicinity of Belgrade Fortress, major museums and galleries, and the pedestrian zone of Knez Mihailova Street. There are lots of cafés, restaurants, pizza houses and shops all around. The Royal is one of those cozy, communal, everybody's-a-buddy places. In the tiny lobby there is an 'aperitif bar' with a few tables, where there always seem to be young travelers, students and backpackers sitting around, coming or going. There is a restaurant, newsstand, and exchange office. The rooms are simply to poorly furnished, although all have a bathroom, and some have a TV. You will also find by far the lowest rates for hotel accommodation in town! However, we would recommend the Royal primarily to young people.

Splendid ***  | Our opinion: **

The Splendid Hotel, one of the most centrally located hotels is situated in a narrow bystreet of the Belgrade's administrative and commercial center, across from the City Hall and Federal Parliament buildings. It was built in 1938. It includes a tiny lobby, bar/cafe and breakfast room (only bed & breakfast service is available). All 18 single and 31 double rooms have private facilities, but they are rather modestly furnished. The lobby is surrounded by a cramped and smoky bar (kafana), the most popular gathering place of some people working in the oldest Yugoslav travel company nearby. You don't need to go to the Tourist Information office. Just step in here, launch your question and buy a drink for free information! You can even meet some of our fellow guides who are customary clients at the place; however, don't forget to call us first for your private tours! This hotel is a good value for young travelers and a short stay.

Union ***  | Our opinion: **sup.

The first privatized hotel in Belgrade is located in the heart of Belgrade, surrounded by commercial, administrative and cultural institutions. It was built in 1923 with architectural features typical for buildings at the beginning of the 20th century. It is categorized as a three star hotel. The interior is a bit dark, with a small reception area and a restaurant having 200 seats. There is also a banquet hall, piano bar, internet access (free for hotel guests) and slot machine club. The rooms are rather small, but equipped with telephone, cable TV and mini bar, offering rest and relaxation both to business people and tourists visiting Belgrade. The suits are luxuriously furnished and decorated with antique furniture; the room is separated from the adjacent lounge, with soft lighting giving a warm atmosphere.

Kasina ***  | Our opinion: **sup.

This hotel is situated in the very heart of the city, in the middle of the main commercial district, surrounded by shops, taverns, restaurants, cafes. The best "Mc Donald's" fast food in Belgrade is at hand. In the hotel there is a renowned and smoky pub which serves various kinds of beer. Once inside, however, you're not too conscious of noise. All 80 guestrooms, somewhat simply furnished have recently renovated private facilities; double rooms have TV and individually controlled A/C. Public parking is about 500m away. A rather good bet for people who enjoy the friendly, informal atmosphere of a pension at reasonably set rates.

Park ***  | Our opinion: **sup.

Conveniently located in the central area of Belgrade, off the Slavija Square and about 700 m from Terazije, The Park Hotel offers modest but decent accommodation. Within walking distance are the Belgrade Palace ('Belgrade Girl') with its department store, lots of restaurants, cafes and bars,  the Nikola Tesla museum, the Natural History museum, and the Student Cultural Center with its frequent rock music performances. This is the best location for those who are keen to experience the 'cafe society' of Belgrade: along the same street there is a row of surprisingly designed cafes and bars which attract mainly younger clientele. The Park has two restaurants, bar, small reception lounge, conference facilities, garage. 34 single and 95 double rooms with TV and direct phone line. The neighborhood is pretty busy and it can get very noisy at rush hour, so ask for a room high up or at the rear.

Srbija (Serbia) ***  | Our opinion: ***

This 18 floor building is situated in one of Belgrade’s neighborhoods, close to a beautiful forest in Ustanicka Street, c/a 3 km from the city centre. The hotel is well connected to the center of the city, which will make your stay even more pleasant. Recently privatized, it has been renovated and refitted. The 3* Serbia hotel offers: 330 rooms, 2 luxurious suites, 1 family deluxe suite. All rooms include modern furniture and amenities, satellite TV with wide range of TV channels, mini bar, work desk, telephone line, and bathroom. There is a restaurant on top floor offering magnificent views of the city. The hotel rates are more than reasonable. A very good choice for tourist groups arriving with their own motor-coach. The hotel's web site is excellent and very informative.

Le Petit Piaf ***

This French-style hotel is situated in the area of the old bohemian quarter of Belgrade and thus surrounded by popular and frequently visited national restaurants, taverns, cafes and art galleries. Republic Square and the pedestrian zone of Knez Mihailova are at walking distance. The hotel has its own restaurant, 'Chez Tristan', serving French, Italian and Asian cuisine, a hotel bar, 7 double rooms and 5 apartments for double accommodation as well. All rooms with cable TV, Internet access, direct dial phone, safe deposit box, centrally regulated air conditioning (the apartments are equipped with split A/C system). There are plans for further and extensive development of the hotel facilities.

Tulip Inn Putnik ***

Tulip Inn Putnik Belgrade was originally built in 1972 as a property of the first travel agency in former Yugoslavia. The hotel is located in business area of New Belgrade on the left bank of the Sava River, at a location easily accessible from all parts of Belgrade. Close to the hotel there are offices of all mayor companies and new business centers and shopping malls. With its completely renovated (2010) and refurbished 85 standard, rather small rooms and 12 suites the hotel offers comfortable stay to both business and leisure travelers. All the rooms and suites feature a wide range of amenities including working desk, telephone, radio and TV set, in-room safe, mini-bar, A/C and opening windows. Parking is free of charge for hotel guests.

Palace ****  | Our opinion: ***

One of the oldest Belgrade hotels is located in the area of Old Town, within walking distance of Knez Mihailova Street, Belgrade Fortress and the Orthodox Cathedral. The Palace was built in the 1920s, and has probably the most elegant facade of any hotel in Belgrade, with some embellishments you'd find in a French hotel of that period. The hotel's entrance faces a tiny square with a circular garden in the center and trees all around, a few shops, cafes and restaurants. There are 2 hotel restaurants (Classic in the lobby and Belgrade Panorama on the sixth floor offering good view of downtown Belgrade). There is also a banquet hall, bar, exchange office, TV/Internet lounge, casino and a garage with car wash service.  All 70 rooms and 15 suites are nicely appointed, most of them recently renovated or refurbished. The Palace Hotel is a partner of the Hotel Staff School of Belgrade.

Metropol Palace **** | Our opinion: ***

CLOSED DUE TO RECONSTRUCTION (2010)

Moskva ****  | Our opinion: ****

This old established hotel is situated in the very heart of the city, in the middle of its main commercial district. The attractive palace style building (1906, Art Nouveau) is a recognizable Belgrade landmark. It has a restaurant, 2 cafes, aperitif bar, banquet hall, business lounge, limited parking. It is well-decorated and well-maintained and has 6 'diplomatic' suites, 40 duplex suites and 132 single or double rooms offering modern comfort. The rooms (some  furnished with real antiques) have TV, mini bar, radio. The entrance is from the rear (approach from a sidestreet), and the lobby is small and doesn't quite look like that of a first-class hotel. But wait till you get upstairs! There's no scrimping on space here, where everything is large and spacious, with high ceilings.

Slavija ** | Our opinion: *
Slavija Lux *****  | Our opinion: ***sup.

Dominating Slavija Square at the border of the main commercial district, two Hotels Slavija run by JAT-Yugoslav Airlines stand beside each other. They look more like office buildings than hotels and offer accommodations in three different room categories. Located in the vicinity of the new St. Sava Church (now being built) and the National Library, the hotels are surrounded by cafes and fast food kiosks. The City Air Terminal for buses from and to the airport is in front of the hotel. Rooms at the Slavija (Section A** and B***) are furnished according to their supposed official category (all with private facilities), but most of them are quite dilapidated and desperately need a new coat of paint. At certain times of the year all the decent Belgrade hotels might be overbooked and the Slavija could be your only chance for accommodation in town. Even though you usually refuse poor-quality and badly maintained accommodation, do not fly into a rage when you run into the room's defects and deficiencies. Neither march to the reception staff, for they can hardly help you.
Of the two, the Slavija Lux is at least twice as good as its twin. It is a neat though heavily overpriced hotel. Not bad if you have money to burn!

M Hotel (Best Western) **** | Our opinion: ****

This very well-established and recently enlarged hotel is situated in a wooded residential area, close to the FC Red Star stadium, about 4 km from the city center. Once the only hostel in Belgrade (the name M stands for mladost, youth), it was completely renovated a few years ago, air-conditioned and brought into line with modern European hotels. It has a restaurant, aperitif bar, night club, conference room, mini market, souvenir shop. The 156 spacious rooms and 11 suites are well appointed, offering modern comfort (all with bathroom, balcony, individually controlled A/C, TV, radio, mini bar), and most of them look out onto delightful greenery. Parking facilities. The friendly, young and professional reception staff are always at hand to assist the guest. Highly recommended for business travelers and groups coming with their own cars or in coaches.

Sumadija (Best Western) **** | Our opinion: ****

Though not centrally located (but close to the Belgrade Fairground and the river island of Ada Ciganlija), this is one of the most decent accommodations Belgrade has to offer. The old hotel from the communism and 'social realism' era of 1970s has recently been privatized and completely renovated to the highest European standards. In keeping with its surroundings ('Banovo brdo' is one of Belgrade's postwar working-class neighborhoods), the building itself is a non-attractive, concrete edifice without balconies, but when you step inside a whole different world awaits you. In total, there are 130 beds in medium sized and nicely appointed single and double rooms, all with fully-equipped mini bar, A/C, cable TV, Internet access, as well as a few apartments. At the small reception desk you will meet young, helpful and kind staff who are very cordial to the guests. There is a cafeteria and a restaurant designed in the style of modernism. As a primarily business hotel it offers a few conference rooms and corresponding business service. To reach the city center you can take a taxi or why not try using public transport - there are both tram and bus lines.

IN Hotel ****sup.

Officially inaugurated on 21st of August 2006, this brand-new business hotel (representing a Greek investment of about 20 million euros) is the first hotel building erected in Belgrade for the last 17 years. It is located in modern urban surroundings on the left bank of the Sava river, at walking distance from the Belgrade Arena and the 'Sava' convention center, c/a 4 km from the heart of the city. There are 156 rooms, 26 suites and 3 rooms specially appointed for guests with disabilities. All rooms are equipped with cable Internet access. Zlatnik *****

This is a brand new (2004) and privately owned hotel conveniently situated for those who would like to avoid the bustle of the capital. It is located in the small and charming town of Zemun, known for its Austrian architecture and the beautiful Danube promenade, c/a 8 km from the center of Belgrade. With its 27 well equipped rooms and 4 suites, big hall with lots of greenery and the nicely decorated lobby, the hotel has everything you would expect from a small, luxurious and friendly hotel. Every room has direct dial phone, mini bar, A/C, Internet access, cable TV. There is also a small business center, as well as a garage for 20 cars, a parking lot for 30 cars. Room service, Banquet service and rent-a-limo service are available. The restaurant nearby, bearing the same name, has long been recognized as one of the best national and fish restaurants in Belgrade.

Continental (ex: Inter-Continental) ***** | Our opinion: ****sup.

Situated on the left bank of the Sava river, near Sava Congress Center, 5 minutes by car to the city center, 15 minutes to Belgrade Airport. 415 rooms (112 double rooms, 273 rooms with queen size bed), 28 suites, 2 presidential suites. Guest rooms: remote control TV, pay TV, movie and satellite channels, direct-dial telephones, 1 line, 2 lines in selected rooms, voice mail, mini bar, in-room safe. Business Rooms and Services. Variety of guest services, and a few distinctive shops. Nice atmosphere and much activity in the lobby, especially in the morning or evening, with an airline crew arriving or waiting to leave.

Hyatt-Regency *****  | Our opinion: amenities*****/service****

8-story deluxe hotel within walking distance of Sava Congress Center, a modern conference and concert venue, 5 minutes by car to the city center, 15 minutes to Belgrade Airport. 308 Rooms, 27 Junior suites, 14 Executive suites, Diplomatic suite and Presidential Suite. Guest rooms with individually controlled A/C, private bath with separate shower, international direct dial, mini bar, color television with remote control showing satellite programs. Variety of guest services: a few luxurious shops are located one level below the marble lobby that resembles a monumental temple. Really impressive environment, but lacks the ambience of a warm hotel. The staff are predominantly good-looking young people. However, we don't think such a hotel should be the place where trainee students from the college are so extensively and consistently used in all phases of the hotel and restaurant field. Breakfast is not included in the basic price.

Aleksandar Palas (Alexander Palace) *****

Note: It is currently not possible to make reservations with this hotel
A new and discrete oasis of utmost luxury in the very heart of Belgrade! The private ‘Aleksandar Palas’ hotel is situated in one of the most arresting Neo-Renaissance buildings of the historical center, just several meters from the main pedestrian zone of Knez Mihailova Street and close to the Orthodox Cathedral and Belgrade Fortress. In the same building there is the well-known and fancy café-restaurant ‘Que Passa’, a popular gathering place for local celebrities and ‘yuppies’, as well as the elegant ‘Kraljevina (The Kingdom)’ Restaurant. The hotel is member of the 'Great Hotels of the World' and offers 9 exclusive and differently designed apartments – suites. Each unit has a living room, a bedroom and a bathroom. The living room is furnished with cozy furniture, air condition, ventilation, direct internet, telephone with a direct line, TV with satellite and local programs, mini bar. The bedroom has, apart from a comfortable king size bed, DVD Home Cinema System, TV with satellite and local programs, direct internet line, direct telephone line and a small safe deposit box.
If you are looking for the most luxurious hotel accommodation in Belgrade and are lucky enough to have someone who will pay your hotel bill, then you need look no further.

Private Accommodation (Rooms to let)
At the exit area of the railway station there is a new Tourist Information Center office (working hours: 8-21 daily, phone: 361.27.32), where the efficient staff have a thorough understanding of the way things work or don't work in private accommodation. They can give you a few reliable addresses. Avoid accepting suggestions of some locals around the corner from the station offering ‘private rooms’. Such a room could turn out to be your worst nightmare – it is usually located in a miserable, dilapidated hovel of this sleazy and unsavory area, unclean, cramped and overcrowded. Besides, "a beautiful and very cheap room" might be nothing but a ploy to draw you into a trap. So, think twice before going this way.
